Learning material: Chinese Paradise Beginner

Introduction: Chinese Paradise is a series of textbooks designed for Chinese language learners, and recommended by Office of Chinese Language Council International. These books present the brief introductions to the Chinese culture, descriptions of Chinese characters and stories, and interesting songs, folks, and games. 

How to use this material: You will use this textbook to start your Chinese learning journey with the help of your teachers! Teachers will guide you go through the vocabulary words and simple grammatical structures based on the scenario in each lesson, and you will practice the language with interesting songs, authentic folks and attractive stories, which is also a good way to get access to Chinese culture. 

Learning material: Learn Mandarin with Chinese Mom and Son(LMCMS)

Introduction: From this material, students will go deep into a typical Chinese family’s daily lives. Students will learn about daily conversations, workplace dialogues, school activities and Chinese culture. Students will also learn about Chinese food, history, folklore, games and festivals.

How to use this material: After you have learned new vocabulary and phrases in your lessons, this is the time for you to talk! Get interactive and practice the exercises with one of our native Mandarin speaking tutors. Your tutor will guide you through the lesson, role play with you, correct your pronunciation, and answer your questions. Your tutor could also talk with you about non-lesson related topics of your choice.

Lesson Notes: These two power point notes was created and used by  some selected teachers for their students.  It accompanies level 1 lesson 3 shown above. Each teacher produces their own style of notes for different students. Teacher adjusts difficulty and content to suit each student.

How to use this material: Each teacher will use his/her own note made for you to guide you through the lesson material, ensuring a deep understanding of each lesson.

Learning material: Growing Up Chinese

Introduction: Entertaining, fun and easy to follow. This video series has one hundred episodes, each fifteen minutes in length. The series´ aim is to use dramatic skits to three hundred of the most commonly spoken Chinese phrases.

How to use this material: You and your tutor will watch an episode in Mandarin (subtitles in English) together. Your tutor will teach some of the key words. You will practice the pronunciation and understand the meaning of the Mandarin words used in the episode.  Throughout the process, you two will also talk about the story in the episode using as much Mandarin as possible. You will also work on the exercise prepared by your tutors based on the episode.

Introduction: Ma Liping Chinese is a series of Chinese-learning textbooks designed and produced by Dr. Liping Ma, who is a senior scholar at the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching. This series aims to scaffold students with some Chinese background to move to the next learning steps, and gradually cultivate their interests towards Chinese cultures and literatures.

How to use this material: With some backgrounds of Chinese language and culture, you will continue to explore Chinese language with your teacher. The teacher will lead you to read the interesting texts and articles, and have opportunity to learn many frequently-used Chinese characters! Additionally, you will get access to know about many Chinese classical cultures and literatures, such as Journey to the West.
